Call for Papers ‘Efficiency in Education and the use of big data’, November 2015, Leuven, Belgium

Workshop November 19-20, 2015

Deadline call for papers: August 25, 2015

This workshop aims to investigate and connect two related issues:

  • Efficiency in education: We welcome papers that examine innovative methodologies and/or applications in the field of efficiency in education. Obtaining more efficiency and productivity can be the mean for devoting resources to the quality of activities and outputs, improving the satisfaction of citizens who receive the services, and guaranteeing more effectiveness and equity for the public sector as a whole.
  • The use of big data: The traditional administrative datasets are today ‘big’ in the sense that the single organizations, in many sectors, periodically fill very detailed questionnaires and databases with not only structural and ‘hard’ information, but also with soft data about managerial practices, quality of outputs and inputs, etc. We welcome papers that propose methodological advancements or empirical applications for measuring the efficiency of public organisations’ activities and outputs, taking advantage of the availability of big data.

The most promising papers of the workshop will be invited for submission in a special issue of Public Policy and Administration, devoted to ‘Big data analytics and its use in the measurement of public organizations’ performance and efficiency’ (guest editors: Tommaso Agasisti & Kristof De Witte).
